Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)
The Blended Intensive Programme, abbreviated BIP, is a short, intensive cross-border course with joint online and face-to-face elements. It is a new mobility format embedded in the Erasmus programme and implemented as part of the new Erasmus programme generation (2021-2027).
BIPs are developed on transdisciplinary themes, ideally taking into account the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme (sustainability, inclusion, civic engagement) and the UN SDGs.
Requirements:
A BIP consists of a joint digital phase and a joint attendance phase. The digital phase can take place either before or after the attendance phase. The attendance phase lasts between 5 and 30 days (max. 15 days are funded).
- A BIP is jointly organised by at least 3 higher education institutions from 3 different Erasmus+ Programme Countries (1 coordinating and 2 sending universities).
- At least 15 mobile participants from the sending universities must take part in a BIP (these are sponsored by the home universities).
- A BIP must correspond to at least 3 ECTS-Credits.

A BIP represents an exciting format for complementing courses with international teaching and learning experiences and equipping them with international competence. A BIP offers instructors the opportunity to finance a co-creative course developed together with European partners. All instructors at the University of Innsbruck are eligible to apply. They can apply for a BIP as coordinating or participating institution.
Under certain conditions, it is also possible for members of the general staff (e.g. heads of an organisational unit) to organise or participate in a BIP for training purposes. If you are interested, please contact erasmus-bip@uibk.ac.at.
Are you teaching at the UIBK and would like to organise and host a BIP? The coordinating university must apply for the BIPs separately. This is possible once a year in the course of applying for Erasmus KA 131 in February. The coordinating university receives so-called OS funds for the additional organisational expenses in the amount of EUR 400 per participant in the BIP, which is a minimum of EUR 6000 for 15 participants, but a maximum of EUR 8000.
Time horizon for planning:
The UIBK currently has 6 BIPs to award, each with 20 participants. The BIP must be completed by 30 June 2026 at the latest. In the final report, the coordinating university must report in detail on the content, the participants and the goals achieved by the BIP.
The application for funding of the BIP as coordinating university must be submitted at least 6 months before the start (form see below).
If you are a member of the academic staff at UIBK and have been invited by colleagues from a university in an Erasmus+ program country to participate in a BIP and/or to send students to a BIP, then please download the application form and fill it out. Please send the completed form to erasmus-bip@uibk.ac.at at least four months before the start of the BIP.
Whether a mobility grant for students’ participation in the BIP can be approved is decided separately for each case and depends on the available budget.
Students who participate in a BIP as mobile participants receive a grant. The allowance is EUR 70 per day. One day of travel before and after the BIP can also be added and taken into account in the grant. In addition, all students will receive a travel allowance. This allowance is calculated based on the distance between their place of residence and the place where the event will be held. Furthermore, the amount will increase if the students travel in an environmentally friendly way.
Example: Summer School of 5 days, 1 day to travel there, 1 day to travel home, travelling by train from Innsbruck to Paris (695 km): (5+2) x 70€ + 417€ = 907€

After successful participation, students will receive a Transcript of Records with 3 ECTS, which are credited at the sending university in accordance with the OLA (Online Learning Agreement). The students will also have to complete a participant report online.
Academic staff who teach in the course of a BIP can be funded by Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility .
The application for BIP funding as a participating university has to be submitted at least 4 months before the start of the programme.
BIPs taking place within the AURORA European University Alliance will be given priority for funding.
