Welcome to the University of Innsbruck – Universität Innsbruck

Welcome to the University of Innsbruck

Dear first-year student,

welcome to the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck. We are pleased that you are starting this new challenging and important stage of your life with us.

The University of Innsbruck is a good place for this start and it opens up to you a broad and multifaceted range of studies with very many opportunities, also far beyond your field of study. Five Nobel Prize winners, many top athletes and countless graduates in leading positions in business, science, technology, politics and society: Innsbruck is the place that promotes and develops talent.

The University, the City of Innsbruck and the Province of Tyrol have a wide range of offers for you to experience nature and culture, to be active in sports or to get involved and network socially in addition to your studies.

It is our goal to support you in the best possible way on your way and, in the sense of research-led teaching, to prepare you personally and in terms of content for your future challenges. In the coming years, however, you will not only receive the necessary professional tools to create an excellent starting position for your future life - equipped with a university degree.

With 16 faculties, our university offers countless opportunities to customise your studies with elective packages, internships or experiences abroad, or to get in touch with colleagues from other subjects, to broaden your personal horizons, to gain qualifications and experience, and thus to prepare yourself optimally for later professional activities.

Make full use of these opportunities. A course of study and the time spent studying are an important part of personal development. You learn how to solve complex tasks and take on responsibility. In addition, studying, doing sports, getting involved in student co-determination or joint leisure activities very often lead to friendships and networks that last a lifetime.

Our colleagues in research, teaching and administration will be happy to support you. Especially at the beginning, you will have one or two questions. Please make extensive use of the services offered by our Central Student Advisory Service and our "buddy system". Talk to the staff and student representatives at your institute or in your field of study if you are looking for answers or need support.

To make it easier for you to get started, we have compiled important and necessary information on this website to provide you with a basis for your first steps at the University of Innsbruck.

We wish you a good start into an exciting study programme. Stay curious and ask questions! That is the essence of a university.

Bernhard Fügenschuh, former Vice Rector for Teaching and Students
