Georg Niedrist investigates how aquatic life reacts to environmental changes and is particularly interested in mountain waters, the effects of climate change, the effects of revitalisation projects, nature conservation aspects and aquatic food webs. Niedrist is particularly interested in glacial rivers including the consequences of glacier melt and the biodiversity of invertebrates and fish.

About
After completing his doctorate in Innsbruck at the Department of Ecology, the aquatic ecologist Georg Niedrist worked for the Museum of Nature South Tyrol, started a consultant company for biology and is currently leading an FWF project at the University of Innsbruck. He is on the board of the Austrian Association of Freshwater Ecologists (SIL-Austria) and the European Federation of Freshwater Science (EFFS), and has been honoured with several awards for his research achievements, and recently he also received the City of Innsbruck Prize. Georg Niedrist was born in Innsbruck in 1986, grew up in South Tyrol and is the father of three children.
