Dissertation project
My dissertation is focused on the economic structures of the Sasanian Empire until the year 579 AD. The main focus is on the analysis of economic structures of the Sasanian Empire from a multitude of perspectives. This analysis is done on the basis of numismatic, sphragistic and literary sources. These sources are excellently edited until Khusro I. The Sylloge Nummorum Sasanidarum, the publications of seals, as well as the source editions of roman literature are the basis for the analysis of the economic structures. One of the main challenges of this thesis is that the roman literary sources are heavily influenced by the military conflicts with the Neo-Persian Empire. Additionally, these sources do not have their primary focus on the economy. However, this results in the chance to focus on seemingly secondary mentions of trading posts, climate and geographic conditions and trade actors.
