Graduate Management Admission Test

GMAT as an additional admission requirement

In the winter semester 2024/25, a revised curriculum for some Master's programmes such as Strategic Management and Innovation will come into force.

  • For all English-language Master's programmes, an additional qualitative admission requirement will then be a GMAT
  • Required points: normal GMAT 550 points or shorter GMAT Focus (next generation) at least 525 points
  • The GMAT results must not be older than two years at the time of application.
  • Graduates of the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Innsbruck with an overall grade between 1.0 and 2.8 can waive the GMAT.

 

Since 2021, the GMAT test can also be taken at home in the new online format, provided you have a credit card, find out more at GMAT Online.

The GMAT exam fee in Austria is currently € 275.00, in Germanyit is currently still 250€. Several dates per month are offered in Vienna. More information and registration for the test can be found at OEAD website. A list of test centres in Germany can be found here.

  • The availability of test places is limited. It is recommended to register at least four weeks before the desired date. The test dates given do not indicate the availability of places. The test days on which free places are available can only be seen when the place is booked.
  • The test may only be taken twice a month .
  • It is not possible to register via the UIBK Language Centre.
  • Don't forget to bring a valid identity card to the test!

Tips from the official GMAT site and a Checklist:

1. Understand the test structure and content for the common GMAT:

  • Quantitative Reasoning: 31 questions, 62 minutes
  • Verbal Reasoning: 36 questions, 65 minutes
  • Integrated Reasoning: 12 questions, 30 minutes
  • Analytical Writing Assessment: 1 question, 30 minutes

2. Choose the appropriate test variant:

  • GMAT at the test centre: Traditional test in a controlled environment.
  • GMAT Online: Can be taken from home and offers more flexibility in choosing a time and location.
  • GMAT Focus with 45 minutes per section: Quantitative, Verbal and Data Insights.

3. Use official preparation materials:

  • Use official GMAT prep books (from the ULB) and online resources from the GMAT website.
  • Try the online whiteboard or a physical whiteboard to familiarise yourself with the note-taking method in GMAT Online.
  • Spread your study time evenly across all four test sections.

4. Practice with tests:

  • Take practice tests regularly to get used to the timing and format of the GMAT.
  • Analyse your results to identify weaknesses and work on them.
  • Plan your test strategy & decide in advance which sequences of test sections you prefer

5 Stay flexible and use online resources:

    Implementation:

    • The GMAT is taken entirely on the computer.
    • Computer-adaptive testing (CAT) is used in the "Quantitative" and "Verbal" sections.

    Test method:

    • The test adapts to your performance: Each question is followed by a harder or easier question, depending on whether the previous answer was correct or incorrect.

    Test duration:

    • Total duration: 3.5 hours
    • Pure test time: 3 hours and 7 minutes

    Exam conditions:

    • You work with a standard keyboard in QWERTY layout (English keyboard layout).

    Scoring:

    • The overall result is given on a standardised scale from 200 to 800 points ("Total Scaled Score") as well as in percentages from 1 to 99 ("Total Percentile").
    • You will receive the preliminary result immediately after completing the test.
    • Approximately two weeks later, you will receive the official report sheet with the results obtained in all sections
    • All answers will be sent to the USA and analysed there.
