Analysis of the environmental impact of the event "The Audi Nines"
Client: The Distillery Concept & Creation GmbH, Innsbruck
Implementation period: Summer semester 2019 (March to October 2019)
Project description:
The winter sports event "Audi Nines", which has been organised for 11 years and took place in Sölden and Obergurgl in 2019, brings some of the world's best skiers and snowboarders to the start line.
This event, designed as a media event, uses snow structures such as jumps and quarter pipes that combine elements of slopestyle, ski and boardercross.
The project is being carried out as part of the "Resource Management" course with the involvement of students from the master's degree programme in Environmental Engineering, with the focus on determining and evaluating data in the following areas:
CO2-eq emissions caused
Energy consumption in selected areas (e.g. snow production; snow groomers; on-site transport)
Waste (type and quantity of waste produced)
The role of water at the event
The project was carried out for the first time in the 2019 summer semester. The data collected is used to assess the status of the environmental impact caused by the event and to identify weak points.
This data serves as a basis for future measures to reduce the environmental impact of the event.
Due to its worldwide media coverage, this sporting event has a significant signalling effect on other events and thus on their efforts to organise events in a more environmentally friendly way.
