Jutta Kister is a human geographer, working as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography at the University of Innsbruck. She is investigating in economic and social geography topics with emphasis on sustainable development and socio-ecological transformation. Research interests are in sustainable provision and consumption of food and forest resources, alternative food networks (local and global) and socio-ecological standards and certifications and their spatial impact (e.g., fair and organic). In recent years, she has carried out several projects on the sustainable management of alpine club huts and therefore developed the process-oriented indicator set SYMON.

About
Jutta Kister studied geography from 1997 to 2004 at the Eberhard Karls University and the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, complemented by political science and empirical cultural studies. Her dissertation explored value-based supply chains and socio-ecological standards in Fair Trade, focusing on changes in power dynamics and globalization processes. After her studies, she worked in development policy consulting and education in Baden-Württemberg. Her postdoctoral research focuses on the sustainable use of natural resources, governance in regional and global value creation processes, particularly in forest utilization, and the sustainable provision of food in urban-rural agro-food system.
