Corpora & Discourse International Conference (#CADS 2024)

Corpora & Discourse International Conference (#CADS 2024)

We are happy to announce the call for papers for the 7th Corpora & Discourse International Conference (#CADS 2024), which will be hosted by the Universität Innsbruck, Austria, and will take place from 17 to 19 July 2024.

#CADS 2024

The Corpora and Discourse International Conference showcases research that combines corpus linguistics and discourse analysis in all forms and under all names. Our key objective is to bring together researchers who are interested in how discourse(s) are structured, patterned, and received and who use corpus linguistics as part of their analyses.

We are delighted to announce our confirmed keynote speakers:

Paul Baker (Lancaster University, UK)

Gerlinde Mautner (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Austria)

Anatol Stefanowitsch (Freie Universität Berlin, Germany)

Rachelle Vessey (Carleton University, Canada)

The call for papers opens on 2 October 2023 and closes on 15 January 2024

We invite interested parties to submit abstracts for research papers and posters that employ corpus-assisted discourse analysis. These may include – but need not be limited to – the analysis of:

academic and educational discourses

cultural and cross-cultural phenomena

scientific, technological, and medical texts

political and media discourses

new media, social media, and hybrid text types

socially relevant issues

language ideology and policy

discourse(s) and identities

stylistics and literary studies

discourse(s) in language acquisition and language learning and teaching

figurative language in discourse (e.g. metaphor, metonymy, irony)

comparative studies of different discourse types

discourse(s) and/or language change over different periods of time

We especially encourage abstract submissions from early-career researchers and (doctoral) students.

Please note: Research paper submissions should present research that is either completed or in progress with some substantial results. Works in progress that have yet to yield results may be submitted as poster abstracts. We welcome poster abstracts that report on innovative research in its early stages

For paper presentations, please submit a one-page abstract (ca. 400–500 words excluding references)

Submissions for poster presentations should be shorter (ca. 300 words)

Research paper presentations will consist of a 20-minute talk followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

All research papers should be delivered in person

All abstracts should be submitted via the conference tool https://webapp.uibk.ac.at/cads2024 (see further instructions on Abstact submission). All abstracts should be anonymised and include a title and up to five keywords. All abstracts should be submitted as Word documents formatted according to the conference style sheet, which can be downloaded from the conference website (see below). All abstracts will be peer-reviewed by the conference programme committee.
