Prof. Paul Thomas is a co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Bioxhale. He started Bioxhale with Prof Chris Brightling, Dr Steve Little and Dr Dahlia Salman to create, manufacture and supply reliable and easy to use breath samplers and breath tests that anyone can use, anywhere they need to and whenever appropriate. He is also working with three consortia in the general area of emergency medicine and mass casualty operations. Paul is also Emeritus Professor of Analytical Science at the Department of Chemistry, Loughborough University.
Paul’s record of accomplishment starts with a PhD in 1988 in ultra trace volatile compound analysis at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. After which he worked for the UK’s Atomic Agency Safety and Reliability Directorate before returning to academia as an endowed lecturer at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology’s Department of instrumentation and Analytical Science. In 2007 he was appointed Professor of Analytical Science at Loughborough University, and became Director of the Centre of Analytical Science, and Head of The Department of Chemistry. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, past President of the International Society of Ion Mobility Spectrometry and has served as secretary to the International Association of Breath Research. He has also served as a scientific advisor to UK governmental bodies, including the Cabinet office and SAGE.  His most cherished contribution is the supervision and mentorship of a cohort of 78 PhDs, post-doctoral researchers and masters students along with many collaborations all over the world with many talented and inspirational research teams.
