Aaron Burke: 'Migrants, Merchants, and Mercenaries: Sources of Amorite Social Power during the Middle Bronze Age'

On Wednesday, 18th January of 2023, Aaron Burke held a lecture before the doctoral college on the topic of 'Migrants, Merchants, and Mercenaires: Sources of Amorite Social Power during the Middle Bronze Age', based on his new book 'The Amorites and the Bronze Age Near East. The Making of a Regional Identity'. Burke, who is an archaeologist specialised on the Ancient Near East, has applied modern approaches of the research of identities and ethnicities on the so-called Amorites. It was this group of people from among whom the dynasties of the mesopotamian cities arose in the Old Babylonian time (ca. 2000–1600) which caused it to be called the 'Age of Amorites'.
