OPEN CALL - Eras­mus+ Blen­ded Inten­sive Pro­gram: Rocks from Field to Lab: a prac­ti­cal course

This is a unique opportunity for a 2nd or 3rd year Bachelor’s Degree Geology students who are interested in participating in a field experience combining the Southern Alps and the Naples Volcanic district.

BIPs are short-term Intensive Study Programs, which include in-person and online attendance. This program, in particular, will focus on the study of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

The call, having deadline on 24 February 2023 is addressed to students from the University of Napoli Federico II (UNINA) and University of Innsbruck (UBIK) and University of Iceland (UIS) who, at the moment of application, are regularly enrolled at 2nd and 3rd year of the following programmes A.Y. 2022/2023:

• Bachelor Degree in Geological Sciences (UNINA)
• Bachelor of Earth Sciences (UIBK)
• Bachelor of Geology (UIS)

Call for application for the participation to “erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program”

5 Online Seminars

The programme gives Bachelor students the opportunity to learn about the most important rock types both in theory and in the field and laboratory. The programme will start with a series of online seminars addressing the different types of rocks and giving the students an introduction into the geology of the field areas

March-May (exact dates will be announced soon)

Field trip combining the Southern Alps and the Naples Volcanic district

The field trip will start in the Italian Alps, more precisely in the Dolomites, listed as a World Heritage Site for the aesthetic value of its landscape and for the scientific importance of its geology and geomorphology.
The second part of the field trip will be held in the Neapolitan area, were different Quaternary, mostly presently active volcanic districts are present.
Field excursions will be complemented by short laboratory units in the evenings after the field days and/or real-time virtual units, bringing the laboratories to the field.
The students will prepare a final online seminar on a selected outcrop in small, mixed groups from each partner University.
