Summary:
The report is intended to provide a comprehensive review of scientific research on climate change in Austria and update the contents of the first Austrian Assessment Report published in 2014. In its breadth, the AAR2 goes beyond the special reports published by the Austrian Panel on Climate Change APCC.
The Austrian Assessment Report on Climate Change summarizes the current state of research on the topic and is based on the methodology of the Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The first edition of the report was published in 2014. The 2nd Austrian Assessment Report on Climate Change AAR2 is due to be published in summer 2025.
150 authors, one goal
The AAR2 is a joint effort: more than 150 scientists are writing it, and all facets of climate change are presented in eight chapters: physical principles as well as the changes to be expected as a result of climate change, considerations of the individual economic sectors as well as ideas for emission savings and adaptation options, transformation paths for a climate-neutral society as well as the consideration of Austria's mountain regions as a multidimensional focus area. The aim of the report is to support the social debate on climate change and climate adaptation and to provide a basis for evidence-based policy measures.
Structure of the AAR2:
Methodology follows the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The structure and working process of the AAR2 is based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Report. The report presents scientific findings from relevant publications, and interdisciplinary topics are dealt with in so-called cross-cuts. If there is insufficient scientific evidence relating to Austria on certain issues, findings from studies for other countries are transferred to Austria and expert analyses are included.
The scientific quality of the report is ensured in a multi-stage review process.
