APPROPRIATION IN ARCHITECTURE:
The Originality and Authorship Complex
Since the early 20th-century appropriation art has been a stimulant in questioning the perception and value of the art object. The act of appropriation catalyzed a contradiction in the standard definition of the author through representation and challenged the notion of originality in all creative fields. Hence, defining and analyzing various modes of appropriation utilized specifically in architectural history is essential to formulating the taxonomy of the method of precedent studies. Therefore this thesis aims to create an idiosyncratic reading of the appropriation methodology to better understand the concept of originality through the act of borrowing.
