DiSCourse - The Digital Science Seminar Series on
Estimating Information Expiry Date of Text

It is important to learn for how long information in text remains valid for various objectives, including story comprehension, information retrieval, and user state tracking on microblogs and via chatbot conversations. However, this kind of inference still poses difficulties for computers as it requires temporal commonsense. The task that we focus on requires inference and judgment whether an action expressed in a sentence is still ongoing or has been rather completed (hence, whether the sentence still remains valid or ceases to be valid) given additional provided evidence, either in the form of elapsed time or additional information. We will describe datasets that we have constructed for the above-defined task and effective approaches towards its solution as well as future perspectives for this research.

Adam Jatowt, University of Innsbruck, DiSC & Department of Computer Science

Adam Jatowt is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and the Digital Science Center (DiSC) at the University of Innsbruck, and he leads the Data Science group. His research interests lie in the intersection of Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval, as well as he does research in Digital Humanities.
