Mountain archaeology beyond borders is a project funded by the Euregio-Mobility Fund, to enhance scientific exchange between Trentino and North Tyrol regarding mountain archeology and human habitation in the alps.
The workshop took place from May 13-16, with teachers and students from Innsbruck and Trient participating.
As part of the workshop, the research facilities from the institute of geology, mineralogy and petrography as well as archaeology, were visited.
Excursions were made to the mining and metallurgy museum Brixlegg and prehistoric sites like the iron age copper ore mines in Kropfsberg near Reith in the Alpbachtal, the high alpine terrain of the Rofan with the Middle Stone Age radiolarite extraction site at the Grubalacke and the Hexenfels Abbey, which was used from the Middle Stone Age to the present days, as well as the Tischofer Cave near Kufstein-the only known Paleolithic site in Tyrol so far.
Likewise current scientific projects were presented.
The exchange will continue in august with a visit in Trient from the Innsbrucker Delegation.
