Atmospheric trace gases and me

Werner Jud

ACINN, University of Innsbruck, Austria

Having started working here at the Institute at the beginning of March, I would like to give a brief overview of my scientific career so far.

Since my physics studies, my work has always had certain linking points to research here at the Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences. An essential part of my research has been the measurement of atmospheric trace gases, in particular volatile organic trace gases (VOC).

In my work so far, I have investigated, among other things, the interaction of trace gases and the biosphere, and how they can contribute to cloud formation. I have also researched how adverse environmental conditions, such as those becoming more common in our latitudes due to climate change, affect the VOC emission behaviour of plants.

Before I transferred here, I also worked on precipitation in frozen form. This was mainly about the special properties of snow or ice in relation to the gliding ability of skis or luge runners, respectively, on it.

My talk is intended to give an insight into a varied, multidisciplinary career and to show what expertise I bring with me.
