Remote Access: access to licensed e-media via EZproxy
With remote access via EZproxy, members of the University of Innsbruck off campus and members of the Medical University of Innsbruck on and off campus have access to the databases, e-journals and e-books licensed by the ULB Tirol.
Registration on the EZproxy homepage
You log in via the EZproxy homepage of the respective university and can then access all e-media as long as you do not leave EZproxy. The changeover eliminates the need for a vpn connection. A vpn client no longer needs to be installed or used.
Please note that members of the University of Innsbruckonly need EZproxy for access to e-media outside the campus .

Login for searching in BibSearch
You log in with your university ID via the EZproxy homepage of the respective university. After successfully logging in, you will be redirected to the homepage of the ULB Tirol and can then search in our search portal BibSearch. In the search results you can now click on the desired e-resource, click on full text available and thus have access to the resource without having to log in again. As long as you do not close or switch browsers, you can now access all other e-resources in the search results.
Login via bookmark/favourites
You are researching in a search engine, find an article and can now use the bookmark linked below to gain access to the resource. Proceed as follows:
Drag the EZproxy LFU or EZproxy MUI icon into the favourites bar of your browser. After calling up the corresponding e-resource, you can click on the bookmark to log in with your university ID. Once you have successfully logged in, you will be forwarded directly to the e-resource and have access, provided the resource is licenced by the ULB.
You can recognise an active EZproxy connection by the fact that "uibk.idm.oclc.org" is displayed in the address bar of your browser, e.g. https://link-springer-com.uibk.idm.oclc.org/book/10.1007/978-3-531-93299-6. If this addition is no longer anywhere in the URL, call up the EZproxy again and log in. The login is only valid for the currently active browser window.
Once you have logged in via EZproxy, you can use all e-resources that support EZproxy in the same browser session without having to authenticate yourself again. If you open a new browser window, you must call up EZproxy again and log in again.
EZproxy works independently of the browser and operating system used and without the installation of additional software. All you need is a web browser. A vpn client no longer needs to be installed or used.
Javascript, pop-ups and cookies must be enabled in your browser in order to use EZproxy.
The standard browser settings usually fulfil these requirements. If you leave the website of an e-resource to which you had access via EZproxy or call up an e-resource manually, e.g. via a bookmark, you will close EZproxy and have to log in again with the bookmark.
- Most frequent error message: Internal server problem
If you log in to the library account in addition to logging in via EZproxy, you will receive the error message Internal server problem. So please only log in via EZproxy to gain access to e-resources. You only need to log in via your library account to order and reserve printed media. To access e-resources, please do not use the login button for the hits displayed in Bibsearch.
- Old browser cookies
If you have access problems via EZproxy, first delete your browser cookies, close the browser, restart it and then try again. Changing browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox instead of Chrome) can also help.
- Browser settings
Browser settings whose security options are set "too strict", e.g. if cookies are rejected as a matter of principle, can also lead to error messages. You must explicitly allow cookies from EZproxy in the settings.
- Faulty images
Sometimes images or navigation elements of websites accessed via EZproxy are not displayed or are displayed incorrectly. This can usually be rectified by reloading the page.
- New access to providers' platforms
It is possible that EZproxy access to a newly licensed provider platform has not yet been configured correctly. Error messages may also occur here, please report them to ulb-emedien@uibk.ac.at
- Freely accessible content
Error messages may occur with freely accessible or open access content from BibSearch. Until further notice, we recommend that you search for content for which error messages occur directly in your browser.
Special regulation for legal databases
Legal databases are subject to other authentication mechanisms. In some cases, you do not need the EZproxy here. See special regulations for legal databases.
Terms of use and licence conditions
- Please note the Terms of use and the special regulations for legal databases.
- Due to licence regulations, non-university members have access in the publicly accessible rooms of the main library or the departmental and faculty libraries, but not from outside the campus.
