Abstract

Neocallimastigomycota are an enigmatic phylum of the Fungi that inhabit animal guts leading an anaerobic syntrophic lifestyle. They had attracted particular interest recently for biotechnology applications due to their immense array of carbohydrate-active enzymes. However, they are difficult to cultivate and hardly studied.

The seminar lecture gives a state-of-the-art overview of recent perceptions on Neocallimastigomycota, and presents general and specific challenges, e.g., in their analytics and phylogenetic portrayal.
