Project Description:
This research is framed by the debate presented in the publication of the book “Is there an Object-Oriented architecture?” (Bedford, 2020). More specifically, the research aims at historically and theoretically positioning the relation in between architecture and objects under the following hypothesis: since the Modern Movement, in order to construct a disciplinary position the architect needed to instrumentalize an idea of object in constant dialogue with an idea of subject. However, OOO’s negation of the latter promotes the emergence of architectural objects singularized by an ontological autonomy whose theoretical consequences have been barely identified and contextualised in architecture. The research projects objective is the creation of a Piranesi Algorithm, using all architectural plans, as a dataset, that have been used by Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s for his Campo Marzio Plan of Rome from 1757. The findings and information revealed through this formalist reading process will be registered in a vast multi layered database which will be feed into a machine learning Algorithm. The aim of this research is to generate an unpredictable and unforeseen new “Campo Martio Plan”, which I will call “Zero Piranesi”.
