Education
Egidio is a Spanish and Brazilian citizen, raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he graduated in International Relations from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He holds an International Masters Degree in Peace, Conflict and Development Studies from Universitat Jaume I (UJI) in Castellón, Spain, which he partially pursued at the Peace and Conflict Studies Masters at the University of Innsbruck. Egidio followed his Masters with an International Doctorate also in Peace Conflict and Developmen Studies at UJI in Castellón. He graduated with a Cum Laude with a thesis on Love in Peace and International Studies. During his doctorate, Egidio conducted a research stay at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, focusing on Human Rights.
Work
At UJI, Egidio (co-)facilitated and taught the Intercultural Seminars I, II, III and New Tendencies in Peace and Conflict Studies courses between 2016 and 2022. He was a visiting scholar at the International Masters in International Studies (MAIS) at the University of San Francisco, USA during Autumn 2022, and has also taught at and coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Conflict Transformation and Peace with an emphasis on Emotional Balance at Paz & Mente in Florianópolis, Brazil between 2015 and 2018. Before holding the position of Senior Lecturer at the Unit for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Innsbruck, Egidio also taught in Innsbruck as guest lecturer.
Prior to his post-graduate education and academic career, Egidio worked as an intern and/or volunteer in several multilateral organizations such as the Panamerican Games Organization Committee in Rio, the United Nations Center for Information (UNIC) in Rio and the Red Cross. He also worked in economic development projects together with the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio in Brazil.
Egidio is an active member of the DEEP (Dialogue, Empathy, Ecology and Peace) Network, part of the Global and Decolonizing Circles.
Research
Egidio’s current research interests are: Peace Philosophy, Peace Education and Pedagogy, Conflict Transformation and Nonviolence, Philosophical Anthropology, Humanistic Psychology, International Development Discourse, Social Movements in Latin America and Buen Vivir, and Queer Studies.
Egidio has been involved in a series of Erasmus+ projects as part of the Unit for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Innsbruck. More concretely,
- the Academic Alliance for Reconciliation in the Middle East and North Africa (AARMENA) led by the University of Jena (Germany);
- curriculum Reform to Promote Education for Peace in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, led by Tampere University (Finland), and
- Karazin University Peace Education Hub, part of the Aurora European Universities Alliance – led by Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic).
