Exoskele­tons for Man­ual Work­places

In addition to an extensive range of degree programmes, the University of Innsbruck offers a specific continuing education programme. In addition to courses such as "Medical Law" and courses such as "Current Surveying", projects are carried out with the aim of passing on the knowledge of university employees to companies and public institutions.

The Innovation Camp M Exoskeletons for Manual Workplaces (exoATwork) is one of these projects and was launched this week under the leadership of Prof. Dr Robert Weidner at Campus Technik. The project, funded by the FFG, supports nine small and medium-sized enterprises as well as 17 large companies from various sectors in building up expertise in analysing manual work activities and in selecting and implementing support technologies in existing work processes.

The project is divided into four modules and runs until September 2024. It comprises a total of 23 training units and concludes with an accompanied introduction of technical support systems in selected participating companies. The practice-orientated training is designed to enable participants to

  • better analyse their work processes and identify support requirements
  • organise their workplaces more ergonomically through the use of technical support systems and
  • assess the individual and operational added value of the measures.

Circulation manager in the construction industry

The Innovation Camp M "Circulation Manager in Civil Engineering" has also already started under the direction of Dr AnkeBockreis from the Department of Environmental Engineering.

The content of the innovation camp is divided into four basic and in-depth modules

  • Introduction to the circular economy
  • Circular and resource-conserving construction
  • Evaluation of circularity and digital possibilities
  • Consideration of selected material flows (concrete/steel, brick/clay, photovoltaics, wood, insulation materials)

After completing the innovation camp, participants will have the ability to understand the circular economy in its entire context and to deal intensively with economic and environmental aspects of construction. Through knowledge, case studies and concrete recommendations for action, the participating small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large companies from the construction industry are given a circular future.
