Objective of the project

Within alpine areas a shift of meteorological patterns has to be expected in future. An assessment of the hydrological and morphological responses towards such changes is essential for ensuring a sustainable water management.

The objective of this project is to develop and refine a procedure to comprehensively quantify bedload budgets of alpine catchments and to assess the impact of climate change. Focus is put on changes of bedload transport in small alpine catchments and their contribution on morphodynamics of the receiving gravel-bed streams. The exploration of long-term operational records of sediment transport at water intakes located in small alpine catchments is a key element therein. Beyond, a full modeling chain of climate, hydrological and bedload transport modeling is set up. Results are interpreted under uncertainty to quantify the tangible contribution of climate change.
