Maximize your Masters Learning Experience: ICSL1 Course Open for AURORA Master Students

Do you want to work on relevant societal topics, together with a wide range of societal actors? Do you want to collaborate in a team with students from other master programs across the VU Amsterdam, AURORA Universities, and from abroad? Then we welcome you to join the Interdisciplinary Community Service Learning module.

The module can be followed next to any master program and gives you the opportunity to work on real-life, current challenges. Issues such as sustainability, digitalization, globalization, and inequality are multi-facetted and concern so many different actors that they can’t be addressed effectively from a single perspective. Therefore, in iCSL you are challenged to step out of your bubble and collaborate across and beyond the campus: you’re part of a cross-disciplinary student team, but also work together closely with communities, companies, organizations, and governments. The module consists of two courses, iCSL1 in Nov-Dec and iCSL2 throughout semester 2. We invite you to follow both, but it is also very well possible to just follow one of the two.

The registration to the iCSL1: Defining Challenges in a Multi-Stakeholder Context (AM_1254) is now open! It is a 3 ECTs course, running in November and December on Tuesday evenings 17.30-19.00 (CET), to avoid clashes with schedules of your other courses.

The course builds up to a (hybrid) community event in which you and your fellow students engage in dialogue with diverse stakeholders (from local residents to multinationals, also depending on who the students invite themselves) to jointly define urgent, societal questions. This year the course will focus on two topics: climate change adaptation and digitalization and digital inclusion. Preparing the event, and inter- and transdisciplinary integration of the knowledge collected during the course, are central to the course. You will be assessed based on an interdisciplinary group report.
