The Master's programme in Ancient Worlds deals with the Mediterranean world and the Near East from the beginnings of writing to late antiquity and offers the opportunity for specialized study in the fields of Ancient History, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Greek Studies, Latin Studies, Classical Archaeology, and Near Eastern Archaeology.

Graduates possess specialised knowledge in ancient studies. They are able to use their competence in a scientifically correct way and to apply interdisciplinary approaches to deal with scientific questions. They have the ability to view the past and research traditions from a cultural and global historical as well as gender historical perspective.

The Master’s Programme Ancient Worlds enables students to gain in-depth and extended knowledge in the field of ancient studies and interdisciplinary working, to deal scientifically with past cultures and their material legacy and to adopt a factual-analytical position towards historical and contemporary cultures. Moreover, it offers the opportunity for academic specialisation in the following areas: Ancient History, Ancient Oriental Philology, Greek Studies, Latin Studies, Classical Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology.

Professional preparation for science (research as well as archaeological excavation work, work in archives, work for collections and museums), media and cultural work, work in public service, adult and professional further education.

Three Clus­ters of Excel­lence in Inns­bruck

With highly endowed clusters of excellence, the Austrian Science Fund FWF creates Austrian flagships of basic research. The University of Innsbruck will coordinate the Cluster of Excellence for Quantum Sciences and is involved in two Clusters of Excellence on political, social and cultural developments in Eurasia and on materials for energy conversion and storage.
