Previous work by various authors highlights affine commutative monads as particularly suitable for probabilistic purposes. The present thesis aims to investigate affine commutative monads universally in the probabilistic setting. The main technical result is the construction of the free affine commutative monad on Set generated by a binary operation as the free binary mode monad. Further considerations then lead to a dense embedding of the free mode monad into the discrete probability monad.

Beschreibung: ger: Die Entwicklung echter Epithelien markiert den Beginn der Evolution der Eumetazoa. Ein wichtiges Merkmal ist das Vorhandensein von zellulären Junctions, d. h. von Occludensjunctions (Septate oder Tight Junctions) und Adhärenzjunctions. Zwei wichtige Proteine, die an diesen Verbindungen beteiligt sind, sind Claudine in Septate/Tight Junctions, die parazelluläre Poren bilden und den Wasser- und Ioneneinstrom kontrollieren, und klassische Cadherine in Adherens Junctions, die die richtige Zell-Zell-Adhäsion ermöglichen. Hydra vulgaris, ein einfacher Hydrozoe, exprimiert alle Gene, die für die Bildung von Adherens und Septate Junctions erforderlich sind, und eignet sich ideal für die Untersuchung der Evolution von Epithelien, da sie zur Schwestergruppe der Bilateria gehören und an der Basis der Eumetazoa positioniert sind.br /Bislang wurden 14 Claudin-Orthologe in Hydra vulgaris beschrieben. In dieser Studie identifizierten und charakterisierten wir insgesamt 33 Claudin-Orthologe auf der Grundlage ihrer Sequenz, Domänenorganisation und des vorhergesagten Faltungsverhaltens. Darüber hinaus zeigen Expressionskarten, die auf Einzelzell-RNA-Sequenzierung basieren, eine zelltyp- und gewebespezifische Kombination von Claudinen und eine starke Überlappung der ubiquitär exprimierten Claudin-1, -7 und -12 und der fußscheibenspezifischen Claudin-19 und -31, was einen heterophilen Porenaufbau plausibel macht. Diese Studie ist sowohl der letzte Teil einer ersten detaillierten Charakterisierung eines Claudin-Orthologs in einem nicht-bilateralen Modellsystem als auch ein Ausgangspunkt für die weitere Untersuchung der Funktionalität von Claudinen und der molekularen Architektur von Septatejunctions.br /Hydra vulgaris exprimiert ein einziges klassisches Cadherin-Ortholog, das in späten Nematozyten und ektodermalen Tentakelbatteriezellen hochreguliert ist. Wir haben ein RNAi-mediiertes Knockdown-Protokoll auf der Basis von Elektroporation von Polypen etabliert und die Funktion von Cadherinen bei der Nematozyten-Inkorporation und der Kopfregeneration untersucht. Hier konnte ich zeigen, dass der Einbau von Nematozyten in die Batteriezellen gestört ist und dass die frühe Wundheilung nach der Enthauptung verzögert ist. Diese Studie deutet auf eine möglicherweise konservierte Funktion des klassischen Cadherins bei der Morphallaxe und seine Notwendigkeit für die Tentakelbildung hin.

Computational prediction of non-canonical tumor antigens from RNA sequencing data

Beschreibung: eng: Abstractbr /Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, shifting the focus from targeting malignant cells to supporting the patients own immune system in eliminating cancer cells. Cancer immunotherapy has achieved long-term durable responses in advanced cancers and is now approved worldwide for different tumor indications. Its central goal is to increase the number and activity of T cells targeting neoantigens, i.e. mutated peptides that are presented to the immune system on the cell surface. As neoantigens arise from somatic mutations present only in tumor cells and not in normal cells, they can elicit strong and specific immune responses mediated by T cells, which recognize these tumor specific antigens as non-self. The computational identification of personalized neoantigens from a patients' next-generation sequencing (NGS) data is a key task in immuno-oncology. br /Despite the success and potential of immunotherapy, only a minority of patients are eligible and ultimately respond. Therefore, there is a pressing need to identify new therapeutic targets and combinatorial interventions to augment the reach and efficacy of cancer immunotherapy. Accumulating evidence shows that besides canonical neoantigens arising from single-nucleotide somatic mutations, T cells can also recognize non-canonical tumor antigens arising from the expression of other tumor-specific aberrations, such as alternative splicing events, gene fusions, retroviral elements, and non-coding regions. Non-canonical tumor specific antigens (ncTSAs) have been proposed as an additional pool of therapeutic targets whose potential is yet to be uncovered. ncTSA prediction from tumor NGS data requires ad hoc computational pipelines, but comprehensive and automated software solutions are currently lacking.br /In this PhD project, we developed NovumRNA: a standalone Nextflow bioinformatic pipeline for the prediction of ncTSAs from raw tumor RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data. We extensively validated NovumRNA through the analysis of different RNA sequencing datasets, demonstrating the robustness of its different analytical modules and final predictions. br /We applied NovumRNA to the analysis of a new RNA-seq dataset generated from ten tumor colorectal cancer (CRC) organoids. This analysis revealed comparable ncTSA burden for both microsatellite stable and microsatellite instable CRC patients, and the identification of shared candidates across multiple patient-derived organoids, underlying the importance to further investigating the landscape of ncTSAs in hard-to-treat cancers for new therapeutic targets. Moreover, using this CRC organoid dataset coupled with normal samples from the genotype-tissue expression (GTEx) repository, we showed how large control datasets can be used to more stringently ensure the tumor-specificity of the predicted ncTSAs. br /Finally, we generated an RNA-seq dataset from four patient-derived glioblastoma cell lines treated with the splicing-modulating drug indisulam, and analyzed it with NovumRNA. Our analysis revealed a profound remodeling of tumor-cell transcriptomes induced by this drug, which resulted in the generation of ncTSAs induced by the treatment. Using co-culture experiments, we experimentally validated NovumRNAs predictions, confirming the immunogenicity of 6 out of 11 predicted ncTSAs and demonstrating the high positive predictive value of our methodology.br /This work demonstrates NovumRNAs accessibility and reliability in predicting non-canonical neoantigens and underscores its potential for immunotherapy. Specifically, we exemplified how NovumRNA can be used to identify new therapeutic targets and synergistic drugs that can enhance tumor-cell immunogenicity in hard-to-treat cancers like CRC and glioblastoma. The application of NovumRNA to large cohorts of patients with different cancer types can provide insights on the non-canonical landscape of tumor antigens, which could ultimately guide the design of therapies with higher clinical efficacy and scope.

Beschreibung: eng: The present research analyzes the content, consensus, and accuracy of stereotypes about users of seven psychoactive substances (cannabis, heroin, MDMA, LSD, cocaine, speed, and alcohol). In a first study, participants rated typical users of these substances across various personal characteristics (personality, attributes, qualities, socio-political orientation, values, and health) and the consensus with which the content of these stereotypes was shared among participants was assessed. In a second study, personality profiles of actual drug users were compared to participants beliefs about the drug users to evaluate the accuracy of the stereotypes. Results revealed a strong consensus for stereotypes across all substances except alcohol. Stereotypes were consistently negative for heroin, and to a lesser degree cocaine and speed users, and analysis of variance revealed significant variability in stereotype content depending on the substance. Stereotype accuracy was generally low compared to prior research. Patterns of polysubstance use and significant correlations between personal characteristics and drug use were uncovered. Findings also suggest that out-group homogeneity effects may be present when drug users judge other groups of drug users. The findings underscore the importance of substance-specific approaches to drug-related attitudes. Limitations and directions for future research are discussed.

Beschreibung: ger: Diese Masterarbeit untersucht die Zusammenhänge zwischen dem Konsum von True-Crime- Podcasts und der kognitiven sowie behavioralen Komponente der Kriminalitätsfurcht. Dabei wurden allgemeiner Gewaltmedienkonsum und bisherige Viktimisierungserfahrungen als Kontrollvariablen erfasst. Zudem wurden mögliche moderierende Effekte der Big-5 Persönlichkeitsmerkmale Neurotizismus und Gewissenhaftigkeit auf die kognitive Kriminalitätsfurcht untersucht. Mithilfe einer Mixed-Methods-Analyse wurde eine quantitative Online-Befragung (N = 211) durchgeführt, ergänzt durch eine qualitative Inhaltsanalyse offener Antworten, wurden Zusammenhänge zwischen der Häufigkeit des True-Crime-Konsums, der subjektiven Viktimisierungswahrscheinlichkeit und präventiven Schutzmaßnahmen analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass True-Crime-Konsum mit drei von sieben Variablen zur subjektiven Viktimisierungswahrscheinlichkeit sowie sieben von elf Variablen zum Ergreifen präventiver Schutzmaßnahmen signifikant korreliert. Keine signifikanten Zusammenhänge ergaben sich für den Erwerb von Schutzprodukten. Eine Moderationsanalyse ergab, dass der Einfluss des True- Crime-Konsums auf Kriminalitätsängste durch Neurotizismus moderiert wurde. Signifikante Effekte zeigten sich jedoch nur für Personen mit niedrigen Neurotizismuswerten in Bezug auf die Angst vor Terroranschlägen. Diese Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass True-Crime-Podcasts insbesondere spezifische Bedrohungswahrnehmungen beeinflussen, während ein genereller Anstieg der Kriminalitätsfurcht nicht nachgewiesen werden konnte.

I will review the origins of the MDOE, explain how it works, and discuss its limits. The performance and limitations of the MDOE will be further investigated by carrying out numerical simulations to determine the sensitivity to misalignment and to have reference values for later comparison. The knowledge gained from the simulations will then be used to design a mount to power the MDOE rotation and to characterize its performance. Finally, a practical application of the MDOE will be demonstrated by expanding the existing setup into a confocal profilometer and by measuring the profile of a test sample.

Few ideas are as central to the national mythos. But whenever the federal government has taken a stand for racial minorities, however halfhearted, white Americans have been quick to weaponize the concept of freedom, framing the state itself as a tyrannical obstacle to their own liberties. In Freedom's Dominion, prize-winning historian Jefferson Cowie lays bare the tales of violence and power that lie beneath America's cherished ideal of freedom, through the history of one seemingly charming place in Alabama-Barbour County and its largest town, Eufaula. Long before it was the launching pad for Alabama governor and prominent segregationist George Wallace, Barbour served as a battleground between local and national authorities. In the 1830s, white intruders battled federal troops sent to evict them from Creek Indian lands-including the village called Eufala Town-that they had unlawfully invaded. Eventually the white resistance prompted the federal government to give up the fight and relocate the Creeks westward, bowing to whites' insistence on their freedom to settle where they wished, and smoothing the way for the growth of plantation slavery. In the wake of the Civil War, US troops backed the right of Barbour County's African Americans to vote-until they didn't, and white residents massacred black voters lined up at the polls on Election day in 1874. During the New Deal, local whites eagerly embraced growing federal spending in Barbour County while steadfastly resisting simultaneous efforts to alter the racial order, using convict labor, tenant farming, and lynching to maintain their freedom to rule. After the federal government finally took an enduring affirmative stance on African American rights during the 1950s and 1960s, it prompted Wallace and his allies to take their fight for freedom to the national stage. When Wallace demanded Segregation forever! in his famous 1963 inaugural address, invoking freedom twenty-four times, he merely channeled the currents of Southern-and national-history. This was no new backlash, as it was often described at the time. Ever the Founding, white Americans crying freedom have responded to even the most limited federal interventions to help non-white people with massive, and often violent, resistance. Tracing one town's story and a long struggle between local racism and federal power that continues to this day, Freedom's Dominion reveals how many white Americans came view the federal government as an obstacle to their freedom-their freedom, that is, to oppress.

Beschreibung: ger: Die COVID-19-Pandemie traf viele Gesundheitseinrichtungen unvorbereitet, was das Gesundheitspersonal besonders belastete, das ohnehin schon vor der Pandemie hohen psychischen und physischen Belastungen ausgesetzt war. Während der Pandemie verschärften sich bestehende Probleme wie Personalnot durch höhere Arbeitslast und mangelnde Ressourcen weiter. Internationale Studien zeigen hohe Symptomlevel psychischer Erkrankungen beim Gesundheitspersonal, wobei unterschiedliche Risiko- und Schutzfaktoren eine Rolle spielen können. Die meisten Studien erheben Daten im Querschnitt, vorwiegend in Krankenhäusern. Die vorliegende Arbeit zielt darauf ab, Risikofaktoren unter Mitarbeitenden im Gesundheitswesen während der COVID-19-Pandemie zu identifizieren. Dabei wird auf Literaturrecherchen sowie qualitative und quantitative Erhebungen zurückgegriffen. Auswirkungen auf die psychische Gesundheit von Gesundheitsfachkräften werden im Längsschnitt abgebildet. Rettungsdienstpersonal, das in vielen internationalen Studien unberücksichtigt blieb, wurde im deutschsprachigen Raum in einem Zeitraum von zwei Jahren fünfmal befragt. Damit wird zur Schließung einer entscheidenden Lücke im Forschungsstand beigetragen. Es lässt sich eine steigende Stressbelastung im Verlauf der Pandemie feststellen. Die Prävalenzraten unserer Erhebungen spiegeln die hohen Belastungen im Gesundheitsbereich wider. Qualitative Erhebungen weisen insbesondere auf das Erleben moralischer Stressoren und Verletzungen hin. Die Wahrnehmung änderte sich im Verlauf der Pandemie stark: Während zu Beginn Angst und Unsicherheit zentral waren, nahmen Erschöpfung, Frustration und Fragen nach Gerechtigkeit sowohl gesellschaftlich als auch innerhalb der Gesundheitseinrichtungen zu. Aus den Ergebnissen werden Empfehlungen für adäquate psychosoziale Unterstützung abgeleitet. Dabei muss berücksichtigt werden, dass solche Maßnahmen nicht nur auf der individuellen Ebene gedacht werden können. Insbesondere die organisationalen Einflüsse spielen eine Rolle, wodurch die Teamleitungs- und Management-Ebene eine besondere Rolle spielen muss. Maßnahmen zur Resilienzförderung von Gesundheitssystemen sollten, auch in Anbetracht des steigenden Risikos multipler Katastrophen, stärker in den Fokus genommen werden. Dabei müssen die Resistenz (Widerstandsfähigkeit), Erholungsfähigkeit und adaptive Kapazität (Lernfähigkeit) berücksichtigt werden.

Beschreibung: Judith of West Francia is one of the most enigmatic of Charlemagnés early descendants. The daughter of the king of West Francia and future emperor Charles the Bald and his wife Ermentrude, she was one of only a handful of Carolingian princesses who were destined for marriage. Over the course of her teenage years she married two successive kings of Wessex, became the first consecrated queen of England, was widowed twice, returned to Francia with an immense dowry, and sparked a major diplomatic incident when she eloped with a nobleman from Flanders called Baldwin. Eventually she married Baldwin in early 864, and together they established the dynasty of the counts of Flanders. Es wird den Fragen nachgegangen, inwiefern bestimmte Formen von Männlichkeit selbst ein Gesundheitsrisiko darstellen und welchen Beitrag sozialtheoretische Konzepte der kritischen Männlichkeitsforschung zur Klärung dieser Frage leisten können. br /Materiale Grundlage der Studie sind zum einen sozialtheoretische Männlichkeitskonzepte der kritischen Männlichkeitsforschung, insbesondere jene von Raewyn Connell, Pierre Bourdieu und Lothar Böhnisch. Zum anderen aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse aus der Psychotherapieforschung zum Umgang von Männern mit psychischen Krisen im Lebenslauf, ins-besondere mit Depression, Sucht und Suizidalität.br /Methodisch wurden auf Basis einer systematischen Literaturrecherche aktuelle psychotherapeutische Studien extrahiert. Anschließend wurde unter Bezugnahme auf die sozialtheoretischen Männlichkeitskonzepte diskutiert, welchen Beitrag diese zur Erklärung der Um-gangsweisen von Männern mit Krisen im Lebenslauf leisten können.br /Die Ergebnisse der Psychotherapieforschung zeigen, dass Männer aufgrund der gesellschaftlich nach wie vorherrschenden traditionellen Männlichkeitsstereotype dazu neigen, sich in Krisensituationen zu verschließen, ihre Gefühle und Leiden eher zu trivialisieren, sich gegebenenfalls auch sozial zu isolieren und kaum Hilfsangebote in Beratung und Therapie zu suchen. Die Befragung sozialtheoretischer Männlichkeitskonzepte kritischer Männlichkeitsforschung zeigt, dass diese einen überaus relevanten Beitrag zum Verständnis von ge-schlechtertypischen Umgangsweisen von Männern mit persönlichen und psychischen Krisen im Lebenslauf leisten können. Denn sie ermöglichen es, Haltungen und Handlungsweisen von Männern sozial zu kontextualisieren und zu historisieren und eben daraus erwächst ihre Brauchbarkeit für die praktische Arbeit im Bereich von Beratung und Psychotherapie. Denn mit Kurt Lewin gesprochen Nichts ist praktischer als eine gute Theorie.

However, these systems are vulnerable to attacks, such as adversarial examples, backdoor, and jailbreak attacks, which pose significant threats to supply chain management operations. The interconnectedness of modern supply chains makes artificial intelligence systems particularly susceptible due to the potential for propagation effects. Despite extensive research on the security of machine learning models in general, supply chain-specific applications remain underexplored. Moreover, existing threat evaluation methods apply a purely technical perspective and fail to account for contextual factors that influence security. br /This research complements the technical perspective with economic and strategic considerations. It develops methods to generate adversarial examples for prediction with time-series data, a method commonly applied in supply chain management, and evaluates their impact through empirical experiments. A game-theoretic model is then formulated to examine the strategic interactions between adversaries and defenders, with empirical results informing the model's instantiation and its practical relevance. The findings are integrated into a framework that systematically addresses technical, economic, and contextual factors to qualitatively assess and mitigate security implications for the deployment of deep learning.br /This thesis demonstrates that deep learning models commonly used in supply chain management are highly vulnerable to adversarial attacks, particularly for the forecasting and image-based quality control task. Including non-technical factors in the evaluation challenges the common notions of attacks and defenses in the literature. This approach reveals the importance of economic considerations in evaluating adversarial machine learning threats. The framework provides a comprehensive approach to assess the susceptibility of deep learning systems. Its application in two supply chain management use cases further demonstrates that technologically similar use cases can exhibit vastly different security implications. br /The results underscore the urgent need for securing deep learning applications in supply chain management and provide a systematic approach to addressing security implications across domains. By integrating technical vulnerabilities, strategic interactions, and contextual considerations, this work contributes to the adversarial machine learning and supply chain literature while offering actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers to deploy deep learning systems responsibly.

Beschreibung: ger: Seit dem Ibiza-Untersuchungsausschuss im Jahre 2020 hat das Vertrauen der Bevölkerung in die heimische Politik abgenommen. Die mediale Präsenz der Wirtschafts- und Korruptionsstaatsanwaltschaft haben das Bild einer repräsentativen Demokratie sichtlich geschwächt, daher richtet diese wissenschaftliche Arbeit ihren Blick auf die politische Bildung und direktdemokratische Beteiligungsformen.br /Welches Ziel verfolgt eine politische Bildung? Mit dem Verweis auf die Bildungsidee, kommt der Politischen Bildung eine zentrale zu, wenn es darum geht Möglichkeitsräume für Jugendliche zu schaffen, in denen sie sich als individuelle mündige Subjekte wahrnehmen, und einen relationalen Bezug zu Gesellschaft aufbauen können. Poltische Bildung legt damit Grundbausteine für Bildungsprozesse. br /Welche didaktischen Kompetenzen brauchen SchülerInnen und LehrerInnen in der politischen Bildung? Seit dem PISA Schock rückte der Begriff der Kompetenzorientierung immer weiter in den Vordergrund pädagogischer Überlegungen, wie man Unterricht für SchülerInnen besser, attraktiver und lebensnaher gestalten könnte. Daher wurde in Österreich im Jahre 2013 das Kompetenzstrukturmodell entwickelt. Im Gegenzug hat sich die Professionalisierung von Lehrberuf eher langsam weiterentwickelt und weist aktuell noch Defizite auf. br /Warum steckt die Demokratie in der Krisé Weil der Neoliberalismus unsere Demokratie bedroht, weil er schließlich eine Spielart des Kapitalismus sei, daher ist die Demokratie Krise eigentlich eine Krise des Kapitalismus.br /Die Ergebnisse der kritischen Diskursanalyse zeigen das Klima der Beteiligung an Volksbegehren der letzten 2 Jahren auf, die sich seit 2022 drastisch geändert haben. Zu Beginn wurde noch ein boom an Begehren verzeichnet, wichtige Errungenschaften wie die Corona-Maßnahmen, die WKStA, und Tierschutzrechten etc., da manche dies als Geschäftsmodell ausnutzen sind mittlerweile die Unterstützungen zurück gegangen auf Kosten direkt demokratischer Beteiligung. Die Frage ab wann ein Volksbegehren zu einer Volksabstimmung führt ist einer der interessantesten Fragen, ebenso inwieweit Bürgerräte den parlamentarischen Prozess fördern.br /Weiterführende Forschung im Bereich direkter Demokratie, könnte sich auf die Art und Weise, einer fundierten in der Gesellschaft anerkannten Beteiligungsform konzentrieren.

Beschreibung: eng: Despite the constant technological advancements in the software industry to build more secure systems, vulnerabilities do not cease to exist. Thus, studying and understanding the characteristics of vulnerabilities, helps the industry to build more and more efficient countermeasures. By fully understanding the current state of a vulnerability life cycle, we can gain the proper awareness of possible risks and build protective mechanisms.br /The goal of this thesis is to measure, analyse and compare the nature and evolution of the vulnerability life cycle, the performance of the patch development process and to evaluate the existing life cycle model using current data. We compare the patch behaviour of four major software vendors Oracle, Microsoft, Android and Apple over a period of six years (2016 - 2021) and create a statistical analysis on general temporal behaviour. Additionally, we take other factors into account and observe certain characteristics, such as reactionary behaviour depending on the severity of a vulnerability - for all observed patches in general, as well as for each vendor individually. The results of our analysis clearly show that the trend towards 0-day patching has not only been achieved over the years, it has even gone beyond that.

Beschreibung: eng: Snow is a fundamental component of the hydrological cycle, especially in the Alpine context where it accumulates precipitation during the winter season and releases its delayed contribution via melting in late spring and summer periods when water demand is higher. Climate change is already disrupting its contribution to water resources, in terms of both overall quantity and seasonality; moreover, future projections for the Alpine region predict significant reduction in snow accumulation and an earlier peaking of snow-related riverine discharge, mainly driven by temperature increase, whereas total precipitation is not foreseen to change. This future scenario calls for highly accurate snowpack dynamics modeling for hydrological applications.br /A new Enhanced Temperature Index (ETI) snowpack module (TOPMELT) was developed to address these environmental challenges and to replace a simple degree-day module in the HYPERstreamHS hydrological model. TOPMELT offers a more detailed description of snowpack dynamics by incorporating radiation data and refining snowpack process characterization. It aims to improve the models ability to simulate snowpack evolution and snow-related hydrological processes over time. A 1 km resolution dataset at a daily scale was also prepared using kriging interpolation technique, to feed the model simulations with reliable and well distributed meteorological data.br /As a novel snowpack module integrated into HYPERstreamHS, TOPMELT already demonstrates performance that is comparable to and sometimes superior to the original and simpler HYPERstreamHS degree-day module for snow accumulation and melt. The results of TOPMELT calibrations and subsequent hydrological simulations for the Adige basin provide insights into the next steps to further improve TOPMELT functionality and release its expected full potential to contribute to hydrological analysis and forecasting.

Beschreibung: eng: Climate change with its consequences continues to provoke environmental concerns and makes the transition to renewable energy sources become essential. As a result, the use of wind and solar energy has increased significantly in recent decades. For instance, the number of wind turbine installations implemented increased by more than 20% annually for twenty years up to 2019 [1]. However, these renewable energy sources also present challenges because their electricity generation depends on natural cycles like weather con ditions and is not consistently available. This is why efficient storage solutions are required to keep the electricity supply stable and reliable. Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) are regarded as a viable approach to these challenges as they proved to be suitable for large-scale energy storage, offering scalability, long cycles and meeting safety requirements [2],[3]. This could make them a key technology in the shift toward sustainable energy. The battery type utilizes vanadium ions in various oxidation states to store and discharge energy and has demonstrated good efficiency without a risk of cross-contamination, and additionally offers possibilities of electrolyte recycling [2]. Recent research has focused on improving the effectiveness of VRFBs through advances in materials [4], electrolyte composition [5], and treatments of the electrode surface [6],[7]. One area of interest is the development of carbon-based electrodes. The method of em broidery showed benefits, but also limitations for structuring electrodes, mainly due to their flat geometry and low electrode thickness that fails to optimize the compartment f illing [8]. The technique of tufting suggests itself as an alternative that could fit with the goal of enhancing the surface area and conductivity of the electrodes. This thesis explores the design and manufacturing processes of tufted electrodes, examines their application in vanadium redox flow batteries, and presents initial approaches for the safe and environ mentally friendly disposal of the vanadium electrolyte.

Beschreibung: ger: Beton ist ein Gemisch aus Gesteinskörnung, Wasser und Zement. Die Zementindustrie leistet einen erheblichen Beitrag zu den globalen CO2-Emissionen. Durch die Beimengung von Pflanzenkohle, einem Abfallprodukt, im Beton wird Kohlenstoff im Baustoff eingelagert, welcher den zuvor erwähnten CO2-Emissionen gegenübersteht.br /br /Diese Arbeit untersucht die Festigkeitseigenschaften und die Permeabilität von Mörtelmischungen, welche mit Biokohle ergänzt werden. Dabei werden 2,5 %, 5,0 %, 7,5 % und 10,0 % des Zements durch Biokohle ersetzt, um den Einfluss der verschiedenen Dosierungen zu analysieren.br /br /Zu Beginn wird eine Referenzmörtelmischung ohne Biokohle hergestellt. Alle Mischungen werden zusätzlich einer Temperaturbelastung von 450 °C bzw. 700 °C ausgesetzt, um die Auswirkung der Temperaturbelastung auf die Eigenschaften zu untersuchen. Es werden Biegezug- und Druckfestigkeitsprüfungen durchgeführt sowie die Permeabilität der Mörtelmischungen bestimmt.br /br /Die Versuche zeigten, dass sich die Festigkeitseigenschaften durch das Ersetzen des Zements durch Biokohle nicht signifikant verschlechtern. Die Permeabilität steigt mit der Biokohle-Dosierung, ein Trend, der durch die Temperaturbelastung verstärkt wird.br /br /Biokohle kann in geringen Mengen als Zementersatz verwendet werden, ohne die Festigkeit signifikant zu beeinträchtigen. Dennoch muss bei größerer Dosierung ein Kompromiss zwischen Kohlenstoffspeicherung und Anforderungen an die Tragfähigkeit berücksichtigt werden. In der Praxis muss je nach Lasteinwirkungen entschieden werden, ob die mechanischen Eigenschaften der zementgebundenen Materialien mit Biokohle genügen. Wenn dies der Fall ist, kann der Vorteil der erhöhten Permeabilität, wie z. B. das Vermeiden von Abplatzungen bei Temperaturbeanspruchung (Brandfall), genutzt werden.
