Stefan Mayr, head of the research group for ecophysiology at the Department of Botany, is investigating the reactions of plants, especially trees and shrubs, to stress factors. His main focuses include the effects of drought stress, frost or forest fires.in the area of plant hydraulics and the effects of drought or frost. Mayr also investigates numerous applied aspects in the areas of forestry, fruit trees and urban trees.Stefan Mayr is head of the research area “Mountain Regions” at the University of Innsbruck with more than 200 researchers.

About
Stefan Mayr has headed the group for ecophysiology at the Department of Botany since 2004 and has held the professorship “Plant Hydraulics” since 2012. He is the spokesperson for the university´s research area "Mountain Regions", which is unique in this form in Austria, and thus responsible for the International Mountain Conference series and the “Innsbruck Doctoral School in Mountain Research”. Mayr is also involved in art, comedy and science communication, has received several awards, including the Ars Docendi State Prize for Excellence in Teaching 2015, and won the 5th Innsbruck Science Slam.
