Student City Innsbruck
Innsbruck is home to 130,000 people, about a quarter of whom are students. The city is often unofficially referred to as the "Capital of the Alps" and is a nest for mountain and nature lovers. In the immediate vicinity several ski resorts, mountain bike trails and climbing sites can be found. Much of it can be reached quickly and easily by public transport, bicycle or even by foot. The cultural and student life in Innsbruck also offers many opportunities to enjoy the city life. The Tiroler Landestheater, the newly opened haus der Musik and the city's museums offer an interesting cultural repertoire. Of course, Innsbruck also has many pubs, bars and clubs! So if you still have enough energy after a long day, you can dive into Innsbruck's nightlife, dance and party until the early morning.
Surroundings and recreation
The area around Innsbruck offers a wide range of activities, from hiking, biking, climbing to visits to the cinema and museums or city trips to nearby Italy. In winter, the Innsbruck region is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world. As an Innsbrucker with the Freizeit-Ticket you can use most mountain railroads, museums, swimming pools and saunas in and around Innsbruck all year round. You can find more information about the Innsbruck region on the website of the tourist office.
Costs
At the University of Innsbruck, there are currently no tuition fees for EU/EEA/CH citizens and equivalent students for a bachelor's, diploma, master's or doctoral program. The only fee you have to pay is the membership in the Östterreichische Hochschülerschaft (ÖH) and that costs about 20 EUR per semester. However, if the standard period of study is exceeded by two semesters, a tuition fee must be paid. More information about tuition fees can be found on the ÖH web page.
Housing market
As in almost all student cities, rents in Innsbruck are considered high. Cheaper shared flats can be found for as little as €350. In order to get one of these, you should look around on the housing market early, because at the beginning of the semester the demand is high. Many rooms, garconniers and apartments are advertised, for example, on the ÖH-Wohnungsbörse or on the webpage of the Tiroler Tageszeitung.
Study and work
Experience has shown that many students have at least one student job. Our institutes also regularly advertise jobs for student employees in the laboratories and forward job advertisements from companies. Here, too, the ÖH Innsbruck has set up a job board.
Scholarships and funding programs
