Prof. R. Lawrence Edwards (*1953) is a professor at the University of Minnesota and one of the most cited geoscientists. He had a huge impact on a whole generation of scientist, through his development and improvement in age dating methods like the Uranium-Thorium dating technique. Based on cave deposits, ice cores and ocean sediments insights were gained in natural and sudden climate change and the historical effects. There are numerous publications together with the research group around Christoph Spötl and his expertise is also the base for the age dating laboratory at the University of Innsbruck, first of its kind in Austria. For all this scientific achievements the University of Innsbruck awards the honorary degree to Prof. R. Lawrence Edwards.
