M. Ake, S. Brandl, A. Friesinger, M. Hildebrandt, A. Morales Sanz, V. Pflüger, C. Probst, H. Wieser, L. Zelger, and G.J. Mayr
ACINN, University of Innsbruck, Austria
As a first ever, students from ACINN went on a two-week excursion to a region in the USA that is called the "Tornado Alley" for a reason because geographical and atmospheric conditions there create a globally unique hotspot for violent storms. These conditions have led to a cluster of top-notch institutions located there focusing on understanding, forecasting and observing these storms and how to best issue warnings to the public.
The presenters will share observations, insights, and key learnings gained from this experience, detailing the scientific and operational aspects of severe weather research.
