Recognition of exams – Universität Innsbruck

Recognition of examinations

You have already completed a university degree or a vocational secondary school (BHS)? Then you have the possibility to take into account formal prior knowledge for selected courses due to your education.

Legal basis

§ 78 (1) UG 2002: "Positively assessed examinations taken by ordinary students at a recognised domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution, a vocational secondary school, a higher institute for teacher and educator training, in studies at recognised domestic educational institutions whose admission requires the general university entrance qualification, or in a course of university character, shall, upon application by the ordinary student, be recognised by the governing body responsible for study matters by means of an administrative decision, provided that they are equivalent to the examinations prescribed in the curriculum. Examinations taken for a subject at a domestic university or at a university of the European Union or of the European Economic Area shall in any case be recognised for the same subject in further studies of the same degree programme at another domestic university if the ECTS credits are the same or differ only slightly [...]."

With effect from the winter semester 2022/23, the UG Novelle 2021 in force

Information on recognition under the new Universities Act (UG Amendment 2021)

In principle, the new Universities Act provides for the possibility of recognizing non-formal and informal learning outcomes. This would include, for example, professional qualifications as well as internships and further education that were not acquired in a university context. A maximum of 60 ECTS is envisaged here.

To apply for recognition of non-formal learning outcomes, please first contact the university's validation office at validierung@uibk.ac.at.

The documents can be found below.

Application

Fill in the form online, save it and print it out.

Study sheet

Print out the current version of the study sheet in LFU-Online.

Confirmation of academic achievement

Print out the Confirmation of the success of the study.

Supplement

Select the relevant supplementary sheet (supplementary sheet BA Curriculum 2008 ("old curriculum"), supplementary sheet BA Curriculum 2023 ("new curriculum"), supplementary sheet MA, supplementary sheet PhD), fill it in online, save it and print it out.

Equivalency check by the applicant

Check that there is no significant difference between the curriculum and the desired examinations to be recognised. See also the relevant recognition guidelines above.

Arrange the copy(s) of the course(s) to be recognised including its/their content description(s) (see course catalogue of the university or post-secondary educational institution concerned) according to the specifications of the supplementary sheet. It is advisable to create a corresponding file with this content for the duration of the recognition procedure.

Compare the content, scope and examination mode of the performance to be recognised with the performance required by the curriculum. The content, scope and examination mode of the courses you want to recognise must be comparable to the content, scope and examination mode of the courses of the corresponding curriculum (curricula).

If the courses do not differ significantly, fill in the supplementary sheet accordingly.

Staple the documents from 5a) (content descriptions, recognition guidelines, examination results) to the supplementary sheet using a paper clip (no staples!).

Psychotherapeutisches Propädeutikum (LFU, 2015):

[17.04.18] Due to the significant increase in university courses and university programmes at Austrian universities, the question of the recognition of examination achievements, which were also acquired within the framework of the Psychotherapeutic Propaedeutic (LFU), was discussed again with the Central Legal Service of the LFU. Result: Courses from the Propädeutikum can still be credited for the BA Educational Science.

BA Module19:

[30.08.22] BA-Modul19: For Module 19 (Extracurricular Competences), any examination performance from a BA study programme or for students of all faculties at the LFU itself can be assigned, provided it was taken after admission to the current BA study programme "Educational Science". (Simply enter it in the examination record at the end of the degree programme - official recognition is not required). However, courses taken at another university, e.g. within the framework of a diploma programme or a course, or courses taken before admission to the current BA programme "Educational Science" must be officially recognised.

MA Module 6 (Interdisciplinary Competences):

[30.08.22] MA Module 6 (Interdisciplinary Competences): You can assign courses from any MA or diploma programme at the LFU to MA Module 6, provided they were taken after admission to the current MA programme "Educational Science". (Simply enter them in the examination record at the end of the programme - official recognition is not required). Courses that were taken at another university or already before admission to the current MA programme "Educational Science", on the other hand, must be officially recognised.
