Netanyahu vs The Generals: Israel in the 21st Century
Vortrag | 18. Juni 2024, 12:00 Uhr | Hörsaal 7
Israel in the 21st century is a country at a crossroads. It is a regional superpower that has shown itself to be vulnerable to attack; a country that is normalizing relations with some Arab countries while engaging in violent conflict with its neighbors to the north and south; a vibrant, yet fragile, democracy that is under threat by illiberal, ultra-nationalist forces; and a thriving, technologically-advanced economy that is facing new challenges including its recently downgraded credit rating. Benjamin Netanyahu, the country’s longest-serving premier, has been the dominant player in contemporary Israeli politics, who has been directly involved in shaping the discourse and the policies on each of these issue-areas. This lecture will focus on Netanyahu’s tension-fraught relationship with the Israeli security establishment on the key issues concerning Israeli politics and society today.
