The Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck was founded in 1669 and is today the largest and most important research and educational institution in western Austria with 27,867 students and 5,582 employees. TIP: Scientists and researchers who relocate to Austria from abroad can apply for a tax residence permit Immigration benefits or an immigration allowance. The informal application (no form!) must be submitted in writing in German to the Austrian tax office within six months of moving to Austria.

There is a branch of the AST in Innsbruck in the offices of the ZeMiT (= Centre for Migrants in Tyrol).
