Anne Hecksteden studied medicine in Germany and France (Saarland University and Université de Nantes). Her doctoral thesis was conducted within the research training program "Cellular regulation and growth" at Saarland University and investigated the differentiation of left ventricular hypertrophy in athletes by means of tissue doppler echocardiography. After clinical training she returned to the Institute of sports and Preventive Medicine at Saarland University in 2009 as a sports physician and postdoctoral researcher. She has repeatedly been deployed as team physician of "Team D" to major international sports events. Since September 2022 Anne Hecksteden is full professor of sports medicine at the Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck and the Medical University Innsbruck.
