Alpine Solutions for the Transition of the textile and plastic Equipment industry and the harmonization of interregional 5R strategies (ASTER)
Funding:
This project is co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Alpine Space Programme 2021-2027
Funding period:
09/2024 – 08/2027
Project description:
Textiles and plastics are essential to the economy of the Alpine region, which includes major European producer for applications in key products of the mountain economy, notably clothing, equipment and sports/outdoor infrastructure. This is accompanied by the generation of significant waste at the production stage (offcuts) and at the end of the product's life.
There is considerable room for improvement in these industries, which could encourage the development of more sustainable value chains in the Alps. Waste must therefore be treated before (refuse, reduce) and after (reuse, repurpose, recycle) its creation. This 5Rs approach offers opportunities for value creation, sustainability and circularity in the Alps.
To achieve a circular economy throughout Europe, the University of Innsbruck and 10 partners (in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Slovenia) are joining forces to contribute to the ‘ASTER’ project throughout the Alps.
