Raffaele completed his BSc in sport and Exercise Science (2009) and his MSc in Sciences and Techniques of Preventive and Adaptive Motor Activity (2012) at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Italy). He also completed an international MSc in Science of sport Coaching and Fitness Testing at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) under Prof. Keijo Häkkinen in 2015 and finally a PhD in Physical Activity and sport at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) under Prof. Jordan Santos-Concejero in 2022. Before starting his PhD, Raffaele spent a year at the Division of Exercise Science and sports Medicine of the University of Cape Town (South Africa), where he collaborated in a research project sponsored by the World Anti-Doping Agency on a new ‘omics’ approach for differentiating the use of recombinant human erythropoietin doping from the effects of altitude training. During his PhD, he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Molecular Physiology of the University of Pavia (Italy), where he co-conducted a study on the effects of replicated exercise training interventions on muscle adaptations and mitochondrial memory. Raffaele is currently a PostDoc at the University of Innsbruck in the research group led by Anne Hecksteden.
