The students of the university course not only learn about the different types of archives, their structures, support systems, and peculiarities in management, organization, and administration on a theoretical level, but they also acquire concrete practical knowledge for work in the diverse archival landscape.
They can access and present various archival and collection materials both formally and in terms of content using appropriate technical methods and presentation techniques. They are informed about the legal foundations and framework conditions of archival work, including issues of data protection and copyright.
They can determine the genesis, form, and transmission of archival materials from different epochs and apply specific archival methods for this purpose. They are able to read archival sources, process them in a user-friendly manner, and make them publicly accessible.
Their qualifications relate to both handling traditional archival holdings and working with contemporary materials, especially electronic and audiovisual materials. They are familiar with their production circumstances and can apply the methodology of records management for secure archiving, administration, and control of digital as well as conventional/paper-based documents.
