Occupational Safety

Access to the TVFA Innsbruck is generally only permitted after completing a safety briefing.
Depending on the reason for the visit, a distinction is made between the following safety instructions:

  1. Safety instruction for Work carried out on TVFA premises
  2. Safety instruction for the Access for students in the course of lectures/exercises
  3. Safety instruction for the Access for customers / visitors

 

Safety instruction for work carried out on TVFA premises

Before students (doctoral candidates, diploma students, etc.) and employees of the University of Innsbruck are allowed to start work in the laboratory, the following points must be fulfilled:

  • Obtain authorisation regarding the availability of laboratory staff and equipment from the head of the TVFA laboratory using Enclosure 1 of the form "Registration of a Master's thesis" or Enclosure 2 of the form "Registration of a dissertation". After obtaining all necessary signatures for the respective application, it must be sent in pdf form to the head of the laboratory (andreas.andreatta@uibk.ac.at).

  • Development of the contents of the "General safety instruction Laboratory" in self-study !!! Then take a short written examination as proof of the content you have learnt. Registration for the examination by e-mail to the laboratory manager (andreas.andreatta@uibk.ac.at).

  • In addition, the document "Information sheet TVFA Laboratory" must be completed and brought to the "examination".

  • You must also bring a passport photo for the lab card (photo width 2.5 cm and height 3 cm).

  • Follow-up training must be completed annually(the documents for the 2023 follow-up training can be found at under this link).

Safety instruction for the access of students in the course of lectures/exercises

Before exercises may be started in the laboratory by the respective course instructor, the following points must be fulfilled or taken into account:


  • Obtain authorisation regarding the availability of laboratory staff and equipment from the laboratory manager of the TVFA

  • Check the maximum possible number of participants
    • for closed rooms, the number of participants is limited to 15 persons
    • for open exits with a door width of at least 80 cm, the number of people depends on the size of the room (rough estimate: 1 person per 2m²). For detailed information or support in this regard, please contact the Health and Safety Office (DI Christoph Genser).

  • Implementation of Safety instruction for teaching/study operations by the course instructor. A "Proof of instruction" must also be completed by the participants and sent to the head of the TVFA for documentation.

Safety briefing for the access of customers / visitors

The following points must be fulfilled before customers are allowed to enter the laboratory:

  • Pre-registration with the TVFA laboratory manager

  • Carrying out the safety briefing for customers / visitors (German/English ) by the head of the visitor group. The participants must also complete an "instruction record" (German/English), which must be sent to the TVFA management for documentation.

Safety data sheets

Before using hazardous substances in the TVFA laboratories, the necessary safety data sheets for the individual work areas must be sent in electronic form to the e-mail address tvfa@uibk.ac.at. The individual work areas are responsible for the proper handling, storage and disposal of these substances.
