The formally, ethically and legally correct and impeccable handling of third-party texts, ideas and works is a hallmark of good scientific practice, but proves to be a fundamental challenge in scientific work.

Dealing with the issues of citation and plagiarism goes beyond the formal, technical level of Literature management; it has a legal and moral-ethical dimension. There is a wide range between deliberate copying and careless mistakes and, at the latest since the emergence of high-profile plagiarism cases in the media, the correct handling of other people's intellectual property has been increasingly recognised.

Criteria of the University of Innsbruck to ensure good scientific practice

The University of Innsbruck has also set up a Ombudsstelle for good scientific practice, which acts as a centre of trust and information.

Commissioned searches are individual searches carried out by library staff. They are offered to members (staff and students) of the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck in some databases that are not accessible campus-wide. The results of a commissioned search are literature citations (often with abstracts), not full texts. If required, we can advise you on how to obtain the full texts. The costs of contract research are covered by the ULB Tirol.

If you are interested in commissioned research, please make an appointment. Appointments are usually available at short notice. Fill out the Request for a contract research form and send it to ulb-emedien@uibk.ac.at.

The presence of the literature seeker(s) during the research is advantageous for optimising the search strategy. A search takes about one hour.
