Address: Fürstenweg 189, 6020, Innsbruck

Research area: Biomechanics

Kurt works in the field of biomechanics. He had a degree in sport and Mathematic. Since 2017 he worked as Associated Professor for biomechanics at our Institute of sport Science, University of Innsbruck.

Safety aspects in skiing, e.g. jumps in downhill skiing and in terrain parks;  three-dimensional finite element model for simulation of the skier-flex pole impact to reduce the injury risk and improve fairness in slalom races; development of a standardized laboratory test to evaluate the excavation effectiveness of avalanche shovels.

Friction of skis on snow, the friction is influenced by a variety of factors, e.g. speed, contact area, snow type (temperature, liquid water content, hardness, texture) and ski properties (stiffness, thermal conductivity, base material, base roughness. With our developed new linear tribometer we analyzed meltwater production due to frictional heating depends on the contact area between ski and snow and quantity of quasi liquid water; effect of roughness on the friction between steel and snow and friction of ski garment to improve safety.
