Insights into heat pump technologies for existing and future energy systems - from the refrigerant circuit to building systems and Carnot User Meeting 2023

Link to the conference website

There is no doubt that the use of heat pumps in buildings is the next step in driving the deep renovation associated with the current and challenging energy transition and promoting the decarbonisation of the building stock.

Heat pumps can be effectively integrated into buildings and industrial processes in various ways:

  • small heat pumps for new and refurbished homes and detached residential buildings
  • Medium-sized heat pumps for apartment blocks or block applications
  • Heat pumps for industrial applications and processes, e.g. waste heat recovery, high-temperature heat pumps

From a holistic perspective, the optimal design of the refrigerant circuit, the integration of heat pumps into existing or new HVAC systems and the optimisation of the control strategy are some of the open questions that need to be answered in order to maximise the use of renewable energy sources and minimise primary energy consumption. This workshop will provide new insights into the latest developments in heat pumps and heat pump applications through selected presentations by researchers from industry and academia. Practical applications and results of simulation tools will emphasise the important role of heat pumps in the near future.

Topics of the conference
  • Research and development on the refrigerant cycle of heat pumps
  • New environmentally friendly refrigerants
  • Latest developments in heat pump systems and components
  • Industrial and high-temperature heat pumps
  • Hybrid heat pump systems
  • Sorption and non-traditional heat pump systems
  • Simulation-based design and optimisation of heat pumps and heat pump applications
  • Advances in Simulink-based tools for numerical simulations of HVAC systems
