State Advocacy for Nuclear Disarmament (STAND), FWF project: Univ.-Prof. Dr. Martin Senn, Department of Political Science

Over the next three years, Prof. Martin Senn, assoc. Prof. Franz Eder and Katja Astner, all epartment of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck, will be working on a FWF project on State Advocacy for Nuclear Disarmament.
Since the dawn of the nuclear age, states have emphasized the necessity of nuclear disarmament. Yet some states have not only talked the talk but also walked the walk. They have taken actions supporting the disarmament agenda, for example by introducing resolutions in the United Nations or sponsoring disarmament initiatives. A recent example is Austria, which played a key role in the creation of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which entered into force in 2021. Such states are advocates of nuclear disarmament and the subject of this project.
