Elegy for A Glacier (AT/US/CAN 2023, 16min) is a narrative short film that follows a young glaciologist who gets called back to her remote home town to assess the local glacier for its prospective use as a ski resort. She soon finds herself confronted by her eco-activist mother who is willing to defend the glacier from destruction at all cost. A feminist anti-western set in a dying landscape. Stephanie Falkeis is an Austrian film director and writer working internationally. She received her MFA in Directing on a Fulbright Fellowship from Columbia University. She is a BAFTA Newcomer Talent, Sloan Science&Film Fellow and currently develops her debut feature. Her work discusses notions of otherness and belonging, the blurring of personal and political identities, and our fraught relationship to the natural world.
