Hypo Tirol Bank Dissertation Award at the University of Innsbruck

The Hypo Tirol Bank AG will award latest and outstanding dissertations with the "Hypo Tirol Bank Dissertation Award at the University of Innsbruck". A total of EUR 20.000 will be offered for the call.

The prize money amounts to at least EUR 2,000 per prize.

All graduates of doctoral and PhD studies at the University of Innsbruck from the previous calendar year who fulfil the following requirements are eligible to apply:

  • Completion of the degree studies in 2023 (date of the notification of the award of the academic degree)

Latest, excellent and best-assessed doctoral thesis which have been submitted at the UIBK.

It should be noted that scientific work that has already been selected by the University of Innsbruck will not be awarded a prize a second time (specifically: Preis der Landeshauptstadt Innsbruck für wissenschaftliche Forschung an der Universität Innsbruck, Preis des Fürstentums Liechtenstein für wissenschaftliche Forschung an der Universität Innsbruck).

When selecting award winners, preference will be given to externally reviewed dissertations or external reviews (if an in-house review and an external review are available) will be given greater weight in the evaluation process.

Please have the application entered into the project database by  the responsible project database officer at your department and upload all documents individually as .pdf files. Send the project database number as an application by e-mail to forschungsfoerderung@uibk.ac.at no later than

  1. Application form download
  2. doctoral thesis as .pdf
  3. Study sheet and confirmation of study time LFU:online
  4. Certificates of the final examination (Rigorosenzeugnis) and notification of the award of the academic degree

  5. all thesis reports

  6. Short description of the dissertation in German (max. 1 page)

  7. Curriculum vitae, academic career

  8. List of publications of the applicant

  9. Short CV in 5 - 8 sentences in German (for the ceremony)

  10. Letter of motivation (why your scientific work should be honoured, 1 - 2 pages)

The next call is expected to take place in 2025.

The awarding of the Hypo Tirol Bank AG Dissertation Prize is expected to take place at a ceremony in summer.

The German version of the call prevails over the English one in case deviations.
