erasmus+ Student Mobility – Universität Innsbruck

erasmus+ Student Mobility (incoming)

Students from our erasmus+ partner universities are able to study at the University of Innsbruck for one or two semesters within the framework of the erasmus+ programme. In order to do so, your home university must have concluded an erasmus+ exchange agreement in your field of study with the University of Innsbruck. Before you can come to Innsbruck you must be nominated directly by the international office of your home university for an exchange semester at the UIBK. Find more about the nomination and application procedure below.

Nomination and application procedure

Nomination deadline:
01st July for the winter semester and full academic year / 01st December for the summer semester

Contact the international office of your home university to find out whether an exchange agreement exists in your subject area (=study programme). You can also have a look at our list of partner institutions for preliminary information. If you are selected for an erasmus+ exchange at UIBK by your home university, your exchange coordinator has to officially nominate you by sending an e-mail to erasmus-incoming@uibk.ac.at before the deadline mentioned above that contains the following information:

  • Personal details:
    • Full name (first and last name[s])
    • E-mail address
  • Academic details:
    • Study cycle/academic level (undergraduate/BA studies, graduate/MA studies, postgraduate/PhD studies)
    • Study programme at home university
    • Desired study programme* at UIBK (as per the erasmus+ agreement)
  • Details regarding exchange:
    • Duration of erasmus+ exchange (1 semester or 2 semesters/full year)
    • Exchange period (winter semester [October to January] and/or summer semester [March to June])

*Please have a look at all our available study programmes and select one that is fairly close to the subject area you are studying at home before applying for an exchange semester at the UIBK.

After being nominated by the exchange coordinator of your home university, you will receive an e-mail with important information regarding accommodation, online application at UIBK, course selection etc.
With this e-mail you will also receive the name and contact data of your erasmus+ Academic/Departmental Coordinator. This person can help you out with all questions surrounding courses, course content and other academic issues.

Please read this e-mail carefully and do not delay your search for a dorm room in case you would like to go through with your exchange semester because it can be difficult to find accommodation in Innsbruck last-minute.

As erasmus+ Incoming student you will be required to create a so-called Online Learning Agreement (OLA). For more information on how to create your OLA, please contact your coordinator at your home university.
In order to learn more about the academic life, types of courses, availability of courses etc., please check out the section Academic information on our website.

In case of questions, please reach out to erasmus-incoming@uibk.ac.at.

Application deadline:
15th July for the winter semester / 15th December for the summer semester

Along with your welcome e-mail, you will receive a step-by-step application guide, which we ask you to read through carefully. It contains a link to our online application system as well as all the necessary information on how to create an account on our student platform LFU:online and subsequently complete your application. If you have studied at the University of Innsbruck before, you already have an LFU:online account that can be reactivated for your new application. It is also mandatory to indicate your matriculation number in case you have studied at an Austrian university before.

During the application process, you have to upload the following documents:

  • erasmus+ Certificate which has been completed, signed and stamped by your home university coordinator (PDF)
  • Scan of your travel document (JPG), which must be valid for at least 3 months after you are leaving the Schengen territory:
    • international passport for third-country nationals or national ID card for EU citizens (please scan both sides!)
  • Biometric photograph (JPG) for your UIBK student ID
  • Current transcript of records (PDF in English)
  • Students who apply for an MA or PhD programme, must also include a copy of their Bachelor's certificate including diploma supplement and their Master's certificate including diploma supplement (if applicable).
  • Your Online Learning Agreement, in case you are studying Sport Science, Geology (Earth Science) or Electrical Engineering

It is not necessary to provide hard copies of these documents.

Only after uploading all required documents, can you submit your online application.

After receiving your complete application, we kindly ask for your patience while we check your documents, which might take several days.

You can always check the status of your application on LFU:online.

If some documents are incorrect or missing or if your application was approved or rejected, you will receive a notification to your e-mail inbox that asks you to log in to LFU:online again for further action on your part.

It is your responsibility as a student to always keep your personal details up to date, so please do not forget to add your new address and phone number in Innsbruck to your file after starting your exchange semester.

Once your online application as an exchange student has been approved, you will receive a notification to your e-mail inbox that asks you to log in to LFU:online again in order to download your Letter of Acceptance.

Your home university does not automatically receive this document, so please forward it to them yourself in case you are asked for it. You can also use your Letter of Acceptance for your visa application in case you are not allowed to enter Austria visa-free.

erasmus+ Incoming students are usually officially admitted by our admission department from mid-August onwards for the winter semester and from mid-January onwards for the summer semester. Once this process is complete, you will receive an e-mail with further instructions on how to access your new UIBK user credentials that you will need in order to access all parts of the UIBK IT infrastructure (e. g. registering for courses, accessing your student email address etc.).

More information on this topic can be found in the Academic information section on our website (=tutorial videos under "Registering and de-registering for courses").

Course registration starts one month prior to the official semester start (1st of September and 1st of February respectively). Since some courses only have limited capacity and spots are sometimes allocated on a first come, first served basis, please apply for your desired courses as soon as possible.

More information on this topic can be found in the Academic information section on our website.

In order to complete your enrolment at the UIBK, all students have to pay the mandatory student union membership fee (=ÖH fee) of approx. EUR 22,70 every semester by 31st October for the winter semester or 31st March for the summer semester. Tuition fees for erasmus+, Joint Study or Aurora incomings are waived but this small administrative fee has to be paid by everyone. If you have an Austrian or an EU bank account, you can choose to wire the amount beforehand but if you only have a non-European bank account, it is recommended to pay the ÖH fee after your arrival in Innsbruck at one of the service terminals on campus since substantial banking fees may apply for overseas transfers. After paying the ÖH fee, do not forget to validate your student ID card at one of the service terminals (=printing the validity date on it).

If you fail to make the payment on time, you will lose your status as an active student and cannot get a transcript of records at the end of your exchange stay.

More information on this topic can be found in the Other important details section on our website (=tutorial video on how to check on the status of your payment).

In case you have questions, please contact erasmus-incoming@uibk.ac.at.
