Biogenic volatile organic compounds - a volatile alphabet for communication in a changing atmospheric environment

Plants are in constant exchange with their environment through volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Like all organisms, plants emit a large number of these compounds from various organs. In addition to their important functions as signaling molecules between organisms, modulating immunity within and between plants, as reactive compounds they play an important role in air chemistry processes such as the formation of secondary aerosols or the conversion of reactive oxygen compounds. The presentation will answer many questions such as Which biogenic VOCs are emitted under changing environmental/climatic conditions? Which biochemical processes and structures are involved? How do bVOCs affect urban areas and what are the feedback mechanisms? How does climate change affect the role of VOCs in future?
