Abstract

This dissertation focuses on the development of sustainable, green, biology-based methods of synthesis of nanoscaled materials by suitable microorganisms. The aim is the reproducible manufacturing of metallic nanoparticles with defined characteristics and controlled size.
This presentation includes a brief introduction to the prized nanoparticles themselves and possible biosynthesis methods. The strategy for implementing the research goals will be explained, and previous results and associated challenges will be presented.
Here, we succeeded in the microbial-mediated biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using extract from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and applied single parameter variations to optimize the method. Light-assisted nanoparticle generation plays an integral role in our research. By using white light irradiation as a tool during the nanoparticle synthesis, we achieved different nanomaterial characteristics and yields. Results of current pre-trails of nanoparticle production by microalgae also indicate their high potential for metal ion reduction. Subsequently, prospective research based on our recent findings will be described.
