eBooks on Demand

Books from the ULB Tirol that are already out of copyright are labelled with the eBooks on Demand (EOD) button. They are available in the following catalogues and can be ordered for digitisation via the eBooks on Demand (EOD) service for a fee: BibSearch/ Digitised nominal catalogue/ Austrian Union Catalogue.

Once ordered, the book will be fully digitised within a few working days and made available for download in PDF format on a personal tracking page. The eBook contains both the image of the page and the automatically recognised full text (including fractured text) in the background. This allows you to search within the book or copy the full text directly into a word processing programme. You can find more information on the conditions at Customer service pages.

In addition, the digitised copy can then be ordered as a reprint. For this purpose, the scans are specially prepared and adapted to the requirements of the reprint service provider. You can find examples here. For the digitisation of works published before 1850, please contact the Special Collections Department (see below Digitisation of works from the historical collections).

Service for libraries: We offer libraries the opportunity to provide their own eBooks-on-demand service. This is currently used by almost 40 libraries in 13 countries. Books digitised via this network can be found in the joint EOD search engine. Orders are processed via the ordering system of the EOD network, which is hosted and further developed at the ULB.

As the State Library, we see it as our mission to make as much Tyrolean material as possible available in digital form. University staff at the LFU can order the scanning of books and articles from the Main Library and the Central Depository up to 100 pages. The order is placed directly via BibSearch in the same way as the previous lending service.

We will scan the desired excerpt for you and apply automatic full-text recognition (OCR). We will then send you an e-mail with the link to the PDF file.

Which books can I order?

You can order a maximum of 100 pages at a time from the printed holdings of the Main Library and the Central Depository. This includes articles from journals or newspapers or individual chapters from books, publication series or university theses.

For what purposes may I use the scans?

We will send you the digital copy for your own or private use for research purposes in accordance with Section 42a(2) UrhG. Any use in the sense of making available to the public or for commercial purposes is not permitted for copyright reasons.

As a teacher, may I also make the scans available in OLAT?

Subject to Section 42g UrhG, works may be reproduced and made available for the purposes of teaching or instruction for a defined group of teaching or course participants, insofar as this is necessary for the respective purpose and justified for the pursuit of non-commercial purposes. However, this excludes works which, by their nature and designation, are intended for school or teaching use, i.e. not textbooks.

How do I order?

To order, please log in to BibSearch. Search for the work in question and click on the "Scan order" option.

Now fill in the form as accurately as possible and place the order by clicking on "Send". The order will appear in your library account, an order confirmation will not be sent.

Please make sure before ordering

  • that you do not already have online access,
  • that the book is not on loan.

What information is required when ordering?

Please provide the following information as precisely as possible: Author, title, chapter, pages or year/volume/issue for journals.

It is important that we can clearly identify your requested article. The page numbers of anthologies can be found in the scanned table of contents. If a scanned table of contents is not available, please try to find the page number through external research or provide the unique title of the chapter.
