The core of the programme is the dissertation research project. Its topic will be agreed with your supervisors. We strongly recommend that you concentrate on the dissertation project from the very beginning.

You will also have to do some coursework which is intended to help you succeed in your research. Compulsory courses will be on research methods and methodology as well as on professional development. You will choose elective courses in consultation with your supervisors according to your personal needs for supporting your dissertation research. These may comprise courses on special research methods or theories, or even presenting at a scientific conference. As the coursework shall support your PhD project, please be patient and specifically DO NOT try to do as many courses as possible at the very beginning.

Graduates of the PhD Programme Management are educated as researchers. Thus, you will be qualified to take up positions at universities, research institutions, or other tertiary educational organisations. The programme also allows you to work in research departments of public or private, national, or international organisations. Moreover, graduates of the PhD Programme in Management are also qualified for responsible management positions in all kinds of organisations requiring highly developed analytical skills as well as handling scientific knowledge.

Doing a PhD requires a high amount of self-organisation. We expect you to actively search for a supervisor, maintain contact with them, and actively seek their advice regarding your research, as well as the selection of modules and courses. Moreover, research requires a lot of initiative on your part, such as searching relevant literature and gaining a comprehensive understanding of the state of research in your field of interest.
